These are the digital collections of the Lexington County Public Library System. They feature digitized items from the library that are of cultural interest, unique, or of historical significance related to Lexington County. The collections include photographs, audio recordings, and rare, one-of-a-kind printed materials. Many of these items are from the South Carolina Room of the Main Library.

Richard Taylor Collection

Richard Taylor, a resident of Lexington County, S.C., was a freelance photographer who took photographs of various people, places and structures of Lexington County. The photographs were taken from approximately 1940 through 1976. These images show the daily life and activities of Lexington County residents during these decades.

Library History Timeline

In its beginnings in 1912, the library took root under the auspices of the Batesburg Woman’s Club, initially housing a modest collection of 325 books. Today, the library system includes 10 physical libraries, a mobile library, an extensive array of online databases, downloadable resources, multiple meeting spaces and an annual circulation exceeding two million items.
